The seaside Porto was settled during the Bronze Age in the 8th Century and later invaded by that dashing historical figure, Napoleon. One of the oldest European cities, it was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its monuments and historical buildings.
Famous for its port wine, which is no surprise considering its name, Porto. This is where you will find tripe on every restaurant menu. Apparently in the 15th Century the good meat was given to the military, hence the locals referred to as "Tripeiros" were left with the offal, which became a traditional dish of the area.
Sitting on the Atlantic it is in the north of Portugal on the River Douro. You will find stately bridges, a medieval riverside district "Ribeira", narrow cobbled streets lined with cafes and old merchant houses. Blessed with a picture postcard perfect skyline, there is the architectural dream of Serralves Museum sitting in a gorgeous park that is as stunning on the outside as the collections inside. The Casa da Musica is well worth gawking at, as it was designed by Rem Koolhaas, a world-renowned architect. Smothered in gold, the lavish interior of the São Francisco Church should not be missed. The iconic landmark "Clerigos Tower" stands guard over the city and the Dom Luis Bridge is an ironwork showstopper.
As you can tell, it is stepping back into an historical architectural dream world when in Porto
and stay up to date with industry trends, insights, and more.
