Every Dubai mainland company hits the same plot twist.
You've picked your business activity. You've reserved the trade name. Maybe you've even designed the logo and bought the domain. Then DED asks one small question: where's your Ejari?
And suddenly you're scrolling office listings at midnight, pricing desks you'll sit at twice a week.
If that sounds familiar, this one's for you. Here's what a Dubai Ejari actually is, why your license can't skip it, and how to get one without signing up for an office you don't need.
TL;DR
- A DED mainland license needs a registered tenancy contract, known as a Dubai Ejari.
- The traditional route is a yearly office lease. For a lot of founders, that's paying for space just to unlock a document.
- The Letswork Ejari gives you a DLD Ejari certificate, Letswork credits and support for 3-5 visas for AED 6,000/year, issued in 3-5 working days.
First, what is an Ejari?
Ejari (Arabic for "my rent") is Dubai's official system for registering tenancy contracts. It sits under the Dubai Land Department, which is why you'll often hear it called a DLD Ejari.
Think of it as the government's record that a specific tenant has the right to use a specific space. Every registered lease in Dubai gets one, whether it's an apartment, a shop or an office.
For a business, the Ejari is the piece of paper that connects your company to a physical address. And in Dubai, that connection matters a lot.
Why your DED mainland license can't skip it
When you set up a mainland company with DED (now the Department of Economy and Tourism), you need to show a registered business address. The Ejari is that proof. No Ejari, no DED mainland license.
But it doesn't stop at setup. Your Dubai mainland Ejari keeps showing up:
- Visas. The space linked to your Ejari affects how many employment visas your company can apply for.
- Banking. Banks may want to see or inspect your registered address before opening a corporate account.
- Labour and government files. Inspections can happen when you process labour or other government paperwork.
So it's less of a one-time checkbox and more of a foundation. Get it right once, and a lot of what comes after gets easier.
The "office for a document" problem
The traditional route is straightforward on paper. Rent an office, register the lease, get your Ejari, done.
In real life, it usually means:
- A yearly commitment to a space you might not use every day
- Upfront rent and setup costs before your business has made a single sale
- A fixed location, even if your team works better near clients, at home or on the move
To be fair, that trade-off makes sense for some companies. If your team of ten needs the same desks every morning, a lease is a good call.
But a lot of new mainland companies look different. A solo founder. Two co-founders with a laptop each. A freelancer turning their work into a proper company. A small team that's mostly remote.
For them, a full office lease is like buying a bus to get a driving license. The real question isn't "where do we find an office?" It's "what's the lightest way to stay compliant and still have somewhere to work?"
Meet the Letswork Ejari
We built the Letswork Ejari for exactly that gap. You get a DLD compliant Ejari for your mainland license, plus access to real workspaces, without a lease.
Here's what AED 6,000/year includes:
- A DLD Ejari certificate. Officially registered with Dubai Land Department and accepted by DED for mainland trade licenses. It's a real, legally binding government document, not a workaround.
- Letswork credits. Use them to book coworking spaces, meeting rooms and private offices across 500+ locations.
- Support for 3-5 visas. Subject to MOHRE approval and your business activity.
- Free inspection support, all year. If labour, banking or government inspections come up, we help you through them.
- Issued in 3-5 working days. Counted from when we receive your documents and payment.
Wait, what do the credits actually get you?
This is the part people tend to skip, and it's honestly the fun part.
Your Dubai Ejari isn't just an address on paper. It comes with places to actually work. Credits work across the Letswork network of 500+ spaces in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and beyond, including coworking spaces, meeting rooms, private offices, cafes and hotel lounges.
In practice, that looks like:
- A focused day at a coworking space when home gets too noisy
- A proper meeting room when a client wants to meet in person
- A private office for the afternoon you need to close a deal or run interviews
- A workspace in Riyadh, Abu Dhabi or Lisbon when work takes you there
So instead of paying for one desk you're tied to, you get a network you can move around in.
How it works: four steps, zero queues
- Send your documents. Upload your Emirates ID, passport, and your trade license or trade name reservation through our secure form. If anything else is needed, we'll tell you.
- We register your tenancy contract. Your DLD Ejari is registered with Dubai Land Department within 3-5 working days, and you receive the certificate.
- You complete your license with DED. Government fees are paid directly to DED. We guide you through the process so nothing gets stuck.
- You start working. Your credits are ready straight away. Open the Letswork app and book your first space.
The whole process is remote. No office visits, no queuing, no printing things out.
What it doesn't cover (so there are no surprises)
We'd rather be upfront:
- DED license fees are separate. The AED 6,000 covers your Ejari registration and Letswork membership. Government fees are paid directly to DED.
- Visa numbers depend on MOHRE. The Ejari typically supports 3-5 visas, but final approval depends on MOHRE and your business activity.
- It's not a dedicated daily office. If your team needs the same fixed desks every day, a private office may suit you better. We can help with that too.
And if DED rejects your application? You get a full refund. No questions asked.
Is the Letswork Ejari right for you?
It's probably a great fit if you:
- Are setting up a Dubai mainland company and need an Ejari for your DED mainland license
- Don't need a full-time office yet, or ever
- Want somewhere professional to meet clients and get deep work done
- Would rather spend your first year's budget on the business, not on rent
So far we've issued 160+ Ejari certificates, and Letswork is rated 4.8 on Google by a community of 80,000+ members.
